Part III: Champion vs The Basement

Walking back into the fray, I noticed something very interesting… while the table saw I came home was not the one I had picked out, it was a good one. In fact, the table on the saw was larger – 42”x19” vs 26”x19”. The quality also seemed to be higher then the others I looked at. Maybe, Province knew I need a better weapon to win again The Basement.

With that thought on my mind, I squared my shoulders and walked towards my foe, determined to conquer him. Grapping my tape measure, I begin to cut boards for the south facing window. This would be the first window I have ever installed and it was far from a normal window….

The “window”, if that what it be, was a square hole in a concrete wall. Using various tools and 22 shells, I mounted a wooden frame around the hole. Into this frame, I tried to insert the window that I had bought. Unfortunately, it would not fit…

[@more@]Steadying myself again the odds, I borrowed strength from the Duke of the Valley who had recently arrived. Together we would face The Basement and tackle the unknown.

Drawing upon the trade of our Lord, we took up our chisel and hammer to begin the fight. Minutes flew by as we chiseled the wood this and that, looking and hoping for that perfect fit. Many a time, our hearts swelled only to be burst with the understanding that it didn’t work.

Soon the bell of Labor Festival began to ring out upon the land. We must step up the fight as the battle must be ended soon!! Gritting our teeth, we bent down to finish the job…

Finally, with a cry of rejoicing, the window slid into place and was firmly nailed to the frame. We had won the battle!!!

Yet, the war was not over….The Basement had managed to escape and was out there waiting… waiting to strike back at those who dared to tread it’s floor..

(to be continued….)

    Table Saw

So did you ever return the craftsman table saw?

  • ardell

Yelp – and it took Sears about 45 minutes to refund my money. It seems that they never recorded the fact that I pick up the saw at their warehouse. Once I convinced them that the saw in front of them was real, they did ok.

When starting to read the sentence “Using various tools and 22 shells…” I’m thinking, what did you do? shoot it? :)

  • ardell

Basically, YES. I did shoot it – with a special tool that propelled a concrete nail through a piece of wood into the concrete wall.

can you hear the barbaric grunts?
